Lacking a medical degree, her approach to therapy is constantly challenged by the resident psychiatrist, Dr. Matthew Clark (Burt Lancaster), who feels her interaction with one child in particular, Reuben Widdicombe (Bruce Ritchey), could result in more problems instead of a cure.
