  4. This Paris Blues (1961) film will appeal to drama enthusiasts and Paul Newman/Sidney Poitier fans . Rating : 6.5/10 . Above average, well worth watching ; along with ¨Hud¨and ¨Outrage¨ , being one of Ritt's best movie.

  5. “Paris Blues” could have been a bold interracial romance. But if Sidney Poitier can call it a step taken, who are we to argue? Paris Blues has many shades, but only one is visible to us: a whole crew wrote and rewrote the script, and in receiving the reports on these various drafts, there is much to mourn.

Arguably the icing on the cake is a score by Duke Ellington.
