Shira Haas (Hebrew: שירה האס; born () 11 May 1995) [1] [2] is an Israeli actress. She initially gained national prominence for her roles in local film and television, [3] [4] winning two Israeli Ophir Awards out of five nominations since 2014.
- She was born in 1995 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and her family moved to Ramat Hasharon shortly after. She’s the youngest of three siblings.
- When she was 2 years old, she was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Three years later, she fully recovered, but Shira acknowledges that the experience marked her forever.
- Her experience with cancer is also the reason for her diminutive stature — the chemotherapy and treatment stunted her growth, though as she says, she is 20 cm (almost 8 inches) taller than what doctors expected her to be.
- Shira wasn’t really the type of kid who put on plays at home. She has said she was very shy as a kid.

- Haas is the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors from Eastern Europe. During World War II, one of her grandfathers was interned at Auschwitz, the infamous Nazi concentration camp.
- Haas’s professional career began at age 14, when she earned herself two theatrical roles at the Cameri, Tel Aviv’s prime theater. She appeared in Shakespeare’s Richard III as well as in Joshua Sonbol’s Ghetto, while still attending the Thelma Yellin Arts High School in Givatayim, east of Tel Aviv.
- In 2014, Haas received a surprise Facebook message from Israeli casting director Esther Kling, urging her to audition for the lead role in the Israeli film Princess.
- Haas’s first international movie, in 2015, A Tale of Love and Darkness, was also a director’s premiere for Israeli American actress Natalie Portman.
