Development
Development of Princess Power began in 2018 after it was optioned by Atomic Cartoons. On September 7, 2022, it was announced that Netflix had ordered the new animated preschool series Princess Power, based on the No.1 New York Times Bestselling book series Princesses Wear Pants by Savannah Guthrie (co-anchor of Today) and Allison Oppenheim. The series was developed by Elise Allen, who is also the showrunner and an executive producer, and produced by Atomic Cartoons and Flower Films. In addition to Allen, the series is executive produced by Guthrie, alongside Matthew Berkowitz, Kristin Cummings and Jennifer Twiner McCarron of Atomic Cartoons, and Drew Barrymore, Ember Truesdell and Nancy Juvonen of Flower Films. Monica Davila is supervising producer. Princess Power will consist of 14 x 11-minute episodes for the first season. On May 17, 2023, Netflix announced a second season. The 20-episode season premiered on October 23, 2023.
The first episode of Princess Power premiered on January 16, 2023 on Netflix Jr., and the full season is premiered on January 30 on Netflix. The second season premiered on October 23, 2023. The third season is set to debut on May 13, 2024.
