  1. 2 days ago · All M. Night Shyamalan Movies Ranked. M. Night Shyamalan broke through into the mainstream with his second-feature, the late ’90s horror phenomenon The Sixth Sense.

    • Praying With Anger (1992) Back when he was a film student at NYU, Shyamalan wrote, directed, produced and starred in this feature about a young man who returns from the U.S. (where he was raised) to India (where he’s from) to participate in a college exchange program at his mother’s behest.
    • Wide Awake (1998) Judging by the title (and the fact that Shyamalan is so renowned for churning out psychological thrillers), you’d be forgiven for presuming Wide Awake is about, say, a family who mysteriously finds themselves unable to fall asleep no matter how tired they are.
    • The Sixth Sense (1999) The Sixth Sense is the movie that catapulted both Shyamalan and young child actor Haley Joel Osement onto Hollywood’s A-list, the movie that earned both of them their first Oscar nominations, and the movie that still make people say “I see dead people.”
    • Unbreakable (2000) Shyamalan and Willis reunited for this movie about a seemingly ordinary man and father named David Dunn who questions the true nature of his existence after he’s the sole survivor of a brutal train crash.

    • Unbreakable. When M. Night Shyamalan first worked with Bruce Willis, it proved to be a match made in box office gold. The film launched the career of Shyamalan and catapulted him to the fame and cult following he enjoys today.
    • Split. When Unbreakable was first released, rumors quickly began to circulate that there would be sequels. While this turned out to be true, the sequel was only made sixteen years later.
    • Glass. While Unbreakable and Split were pretty much self-contained movies, the end of Split makes it clear why they're linked. In doing so, it also wonderfully sets up the third film.
    • The Sixth Sense. The first three films on the list should definitely be watched in that order since they're connected. From that point, these are the other notable films from M. Night Shyamalan that are widely regarded as representing his best work.
    • Wide Awake (1998) No one could have guessed where Shyamalan's career would go based on Wide Awake. His first Hollywood feature is a coming-of-age melodrama that centers on Josh, a young boy grappling with the death of his grandmother.
    • The Sixth Sense (1999) "I see dead people." Everyone remembers this quote from The Sixth Sense, and that one iconic line nicely sums up the film. Cole (Haley Joel Osment) is a sensitive kid who indeed does see ghosts.
    • Unbreakable (2000) How do you follow up a critical and financial darling? Easy. Take things down a notch. Less beholden to the shock and novelty of a "sting in the tail" than its predecessor, Unbreakable is a confident, understated film that deepens with every viewing.
    • Signs (2002) Cinema has witnessed plenty of alien invasions. In Shyamalan's hands, a global takeover by little green men is spun as a heart-wrenching tale of faith and family.
