The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor art project in the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood on Detroit 's east side, just north of the city's historically African-American Black Bottom area. It was created in 1986 by the artist Tyree Guyton, who was assisted by his wife, Karen, and grandfather Sam Mackey ("Grandpa Sam"). [1]

The Heidelberg Project is located on Heidelberg and Elba Place streets between Ellery and Mt Elliott in Detroit’s McDougall Hunt neighborhood. The outdoor art environment is free and open to the public daily, from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Park on the south side (only) of Heidelberg Street or nearby street parking on Ellery and Elba streets.
