- 0:40Trump says he received no warning about gunman on roofReuters VideosSTORY: ::Trump said he received no warning, despite people spotting his would-be assassin before he went on stage ::Aired July 20, 2024 ::Fox News Channel Jesse Watters Primetime "No, nobody mentioned it, nobody said there was a problem and I would've waited for 15, they could've said let's wait for 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 5 minutes, something. Nobody said. I think that was a mistake." "How did somebody get on that roof? And why wasn't he reported? Because people saw that he was on the roof. You had Trumpers screaming, the woman in the red shirt, she was screaming, "there's a man on the roof" and then other people said, "there's a man on the roof who's got a gun" and that was quite a bit before I walked onto the stage, so you would've thought someone would've done something about it." In a clip of an interview released by Fox News, Trump said, "Nobody said there was a problem. I would've waited for 15, they could've said let's wait for 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 5 minutes, something." Calling it a mistake, the former president questioned how the man got on the roof and why he wasn't reported despite supporters screaming out that he was there, "quite a bit before I walked onto the stage." The Washington Post on Saturday reported that top officials at the U.S. Secret Service repeatedly rejected requests from Trump's security detail for more manpower and gear at events before the attempted assassination on July 13. The agency, which is responsible for Trump's protection, had denied these requests, saying at times that it lacked resources, the newspaper reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The Secret Service did not immediately respond outside regular office hours to a Reuters request for comment.1 day ago

- 0:50Tighter security at Trump rally in MichiganReuters VideosSTORY: ::July 20, 2024 ::Trump supporters are pleased to see more security at his first rally since surviving an assassination ::Grand Rapids, Michigan ::Terry Bates, Trump supporter "I haven't seen the inside yet, but I'm sure there's more. That's what they've said, that there's more security here than there has been in the past. So, you know, it's just something you expect, I would hope, you know, they should have had more security last week." ::Renee White, Trump supporter "When I got here today and saw drones up and more tightened, security and everybody doing their job, and after a while, nobody's allowed out of the gate from the perimeter, they got to walk all the way. A lot different, more tight security. It was good to see that." Several roads leading to the Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena were closed, and dozens of police could be seen stationed around the area. “It's just something you expect, I would hope… they should have had more security last week,” Trump supporter and Michigan resident Terry Bates said, as he waited in line outside the venue on Saturday morning. The attempt on the former president’s life during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last Saturday (July 13) left Trump's right ear wounded amidst the barrage of gunshots, which killed one attendee. The U.S. Secret Service has since faced scrutiny for what appears to be a lapse in security arrangements. Renee White, who was also at the Butler rally, where she was seated directly behind Trump during the shooting, said she wasn’t nervous or shaken, but that it was "good to see" all the police and drones circling overhead at the Michigan venue. On Saturday, Trump and his 39-year-old running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, appeared at their first campaign event together in Grand Rapids, Michigan, one of three Rust Belt states seen as must-wins for Democrat Joe Biden's campaign.2 days ago
