Sep 5, 2023 · Mrs. Bata began picking up shoes on their travels. By the late 1970s, the collection had grown to thousands of pairs of shoes. “People suggested she start a museum,” Semmelhack said. And so she did. It began as a foundation that displayed shoes in various venues around Toronto before a permanent home was found in its current location in 1995.
