The tone of Die Hardis balanced perfectly by director John McTiernan. One minute, McClane and Powell will be joking around. The next, Powell will be revealing his dark backstory to McClane, confessing to the accidental shooting of a child. The movie flits between light moments, like Argyle chilling in the back of his limo, and dark moments, like th...

Bruce Lee starred in a ton of great martial arts movies in his tragically short lifetime, but his finest was easily the last one he made before his untimely passing, Enter the Dragon. Lee stars as a master Shaolin martial artist who’s sent to a drug trafficker’s private island under the guise of competing in a martial arts tournament to collect evi...

Any great action movie has its roots in the western. Die Hardis heavily influenced by the genre, with Hans Gruber frequently comparing McClane to gun-toting American cowboys from the big screen. McClane's iconic catchphrase, “Yippee ki-yay, motherf**ker,” is an ironic callback to Roy Rogers’ line, “Yippee-ki-yay, kids!”

The pacing in Die Hardis spot-on. John McTiernan balances the quieter dialogue scenes with the explosive action set pieces masterfully, moving the story along at a brisk pace and giving us all the information we need in as little time as possible. The movie doesn’t slow down or feel boring for a second, but McTiernan gives every scene and every cha...

    • Die Hard. Was there ever any doubt as to which Die Hard movie is the best? Die Hard is considered by many to be one of the best films ever made, period.
    • Live Free or Die Hard. Originally released in 2007 with a studio-mandated PG-13 rating, Live Free or Die Hard was controversial for dropping the series' trademark harsh language and bloody action.
    • Die Hard with a Vengeance. While Die Hard 2 repeated a few too many beats from the original, Die Hard with a Vengeance benefits from taking the franchise in a different direction.
    • Die Hard 2: Die Harder. The first sequel to the 1988 classic aimed to be bigger and better than the first. It's certainly bigger, with more explosions and a higher body count; McClane scores some seriously R-rated kills in this entry, from stabbing a guy in the eye with an icicle to feeding one of the main villains to the turbine engine of a jet airplane.

    • LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD (2007) - 7.1. The fourth movie in the Die Hard franchise hit in 2007 with Live Free or Die Hard.
