I made a video about it back in 2015 shortly after we first started carrying the Visconti brand, and they’ve made enough changes to it that I felt it warranted a refresh!

Mar 26, 2022 · March 26, 2022. Back in 2017, I reviewed a Visconti Homo Sapiens “Dark Ages” fountain pen that I purchased at the D.C. Pen Show, and while my impressions of the pen were generally favorable, I ultimately moved on from it due to usability concerns.
Nov 24, 2022 · From a price standpoint they are pricey. Coming in at around $730-$1000 for the homo Saipan models. But they are unique and IMO for me would be a more worthwhile expense than a Mont Blanc but that’s because for that kind of money I would like something beyond just a normal black pen.
It seems that the biggest issues that the Visconti Homo Sapiens pens have is quality control with their nibs. If you get a good one (or are willing to pay to have it tuned), you could have a great useful pen on hand. But there is a good chance that you'll get one with minor issues (baby's bottom and the like).
I like the Medici better, but it is a matter of preference.. You get a taste of Visconti without it going beyond Visconti into something unrecognizable. Homo sapiens is a good pen but doesn't showcase what Visconti can do..
