  2. Jul 7, 2020 · To all of them I say that if you like Jack Hawkins, you will like The Long Arm, because he is in virtually every scene and carries the movie end to end. The plot of this 1956 film juxtaposes the very traditional 1950s family life of a Scotland Yard Detective Superintendent with his dogged pursuit of a master safecracker.

  3. Oct 11, 2021 · Enjoyable police procedural movie from Ealing Studios, as Jack Hawkins and his team from Scotland Yard investigate a series of safe cracking robberies

  4. The Long Arm. 1956. ★★★½. Watched Sep 23 , 2023. Even as a young man, John Stratton was a funny looking bugger. This Ealing crime film from director Charles Frend is often described as a pseudo documentary. But this is no The Naked City.

  5. May 28, 2016 · Also known as "The Long Arm", this is a fine who-done-it drama well acted by stars and supporting character actors alike. There is one weak, if not hard to believe, link in the course of finding and pursuing clues - but other than that it is a fine script.

  6. The Long Arm aka The Third Key is a quality old school British policier from Ealing Studios starring Jack Hawkins as Detective Superintendent Tom Halliday. Hawkins is on the trail of a serial safe cracking thief a bit to the detriment of his home life.

  7. Written by John Chard on August 7, 2016. Scotland Yard detectives attempt to solve a spate of safe robberies across England beginning with clues found at the latest burglary in London. The film is notable for using a police procedural style made popular by Ealing in their 1950 film The Blue Lamp.
