At the age of 22, Ahaziah became the sixth king of Judah (2 Kings 8:26; 2 Chronicles 22:1). He took the throne after the death of his father Jehoram, also known as Joram (2 Chronicles 21:19).

There are in fact three people in the Bible who go by the name Jehoahaz. Each spent time as a king of a different kingdom—two over Judah and one over Israel.
Are these two different men or the same man with two names? The latter is the correct answer since, in both cases, he is identified as the youngest son. Over a couple of years, his name changed from Jehoahaz to Ahaziah. It is most likely that his birth name was “Jehoahaz,” but he took “Ahaziah” when he ascended the throne.
The name Ahaz is a shortened form of names like Ahaziah and Jehoahaz, which mean “The Lord holds.” Ahaz ruled over Judah from 742–727 BCE, and accounts of his reign are preserved in 2Kgs 16, 2Chr 28, Isa 7, and various Assyrian annals.

Apr 11, 2021 · Jeremiah 22:11-12 wrote Shallum son of Josiah succeeded his father as king of Judah, 2 Kings 23:30b wrote the people took Jehoahaz son of Josiah as king in place of his father. Then Shallum should be Jehoahaz. 2 Kings 31 wrote Jehoahaz became king at twenty-three, reigned in Jerusalem three months.
