  1. Memoir '44 is fine for a younger kid (9-12), and Tide of Iron by FFG is actually a decent system for older ones (12-16). They have the benefit of being self-contained and not requiring 'collecting' sets of minis. The Heroes of Normandie series also mentioned above is good if you're looking for a "cinematic" experience of WWII.

Star Wars Legion is great because it has the best objective system I've seen and the system of upgrading models works well and helps keep old units viable by giving them new options just by releasing some new cards. Plus, it's Star Wars. Dracula's America is great because of the campaign system.

  6. May 21, 2018 · If you are interested in a naval miniatures games, it won't be the rules that cost you a small fortune, it will be the minis. If you want a significant variety of ships, it won't be a small fortune either, but a pretty big one. I invested heavily in and it's great, though on the easier side and somewhat abstracted.
