Penang Island is the main constituent island of the Malaysian state of Penang. It is located off the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia by the Malacca Strait, with the Penang Strait separating the island from Seberang Perai on the mainland.

The island (285 square meters) is situated on the northwest side of the Peninsular Malaysia. There are loads of activities and sights on the island. Hanging around on the beach is also considered a fine option. About 700.000 people inhabit Penang Island, of which 59% are Chinese, 32% are Malay and 7% are Indian (2% are of other origin).
Penang is located on the north-west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Penang is actually one of the thirteen states in Malaysia and consists of Penang Island (Pulau Pinang) and a coastal strip of land on mainland peninsular Malaysia called Province Wellesley (Seberang Prai).
