The Selimiye Mosque (Turkish: Selimiye Camii) is an Ottoman imperial mosque, located in the city of Edirne (formerly Adrianople), Turkey. It was commissioned by Sultan Selim II and was built by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan between 1568 and 1575.

The mosque complex stands on a square delimited by Mimar Sinan, Talat Paşa, Kıyık, Taş Odalar and Hatip streets. On the western side of the mosque, there is a statue of its architect - Mimar Sinan.
Where is Selimiye Mosque? Edirne is in the European part of Türkiye, quite near the Bulgarian and Greek borders. Situated in downtown Edirne, the mosque is often visited as a day trip from Istanbul. Selimiye Otopark is nearby, where you can pay for a parking spot. Keep in mind that it can be challenging to find one during peak hours!
It is quite off the beaten track due to its geographic position not far from the borders of Bulgaria and Greece. It is around 238km from Istanbul but well worth a visit. The main highlight of this WHS is the squarish Selimiye Mosque built by Mimar Sinan around 1575. The 4 minarets that adorn this mosque are indeed the tallest in the Muslim world.

Built between 1569 and 1575 by order of Sultan Selim II at Edirne's highest point, the mosque features four striking 71m-high minarets and was positioned in the centre of an extensive külliye (mosque complex), which included a medrese (Islamic school of higher studies), darül Hadis (Hadith school) and arasta (arcade of shops).
