Ken Saro-Wiwa (1941-1995) was a leading member of the Ogoni tribe of some 500,000 people, living in densely populated Ogoniland in south-eastern Nigeria. He was a central figure in the struggle to stop the devastation of the Niger Delta, which continues to be polluted by large scale oil extraction up to this day.
Ken Saro-Wiwa was more of a prolific indie rocker. He was a recipient of the Goldman Environmental Prize, primarily for his work as president of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People ( MOSOP ).
