Vratislaus II (or Wratislaus II) (Czech: Vratislav II.) (c. 1032 – 14 January 1092), the son of Bretislaus I and Judith of Schweinfurt, was the first King of Bohemia as of 15 June 1085, his royal title granted as a lifetime honorific from Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV that did not establish a hereditary monarchy.

He become a king in 1085 and passed away in 1092, so he was only a king for a fairly short period of 7 years. His coronation was on 15 June 1086, so he was the first Bohemian king to travel the King’s Route and be crowned at Prague Castle.
This allowed a further strengthening of Bohemia, culminating during the reign of Vratislav's grandson, King Vladislaus II (1158). Vladislav II founded many monasteries and built the first stone bridge across the Vltava river, one of the earliest in Central and Northern Europe. Once again, internal struggles started the decline of the Přemyslids.

The recorded history of Pernštejns starts with Stephen I of Medlov, who became the burgrave of the royal Děvice Castle in the first half of 13th century. He also founded the Convent of Augustinian nuns in Doubravník.
This was all down to prince and first Czech King Vratislav II (ruled 1061-1092), who like several of his immediate successors chose the Vyšehrad clifftop for his fortified royal headquarters and the main Přemyslid dynastic seat. The earliest stone buildings date from this period.
