     The container div, and sometimes content div, are almost always used to allow for more sophisticated CSS styling. The body tag is special in some ways. Browsers don't treat it like a normal div; its position and dimensions are tied to the browser window.

     But a container div is just a div and you can style it with margins and borders. You can give it a fixed width, and you can center it with margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto.

     Plus, content, like a copyright notice for example, can go on the outside of the container div, but it can't go on the outside of the body, allowing for content on the outside of a border.

     This method allows you to have more flexibility of styling your entire content. Effectively creating two containers that you can style. The HTML body tag which serves as your background, and the div with an id of the container which contains your content.

     This then allows you to position your content within the page, while styling a background or other effects without issue. Think of it as a "Frame" for the content.

     I faced this issue myself redesigning a website. Troy Dalmasso got me thinking. He makes a good point. So, I started to see if I could get it working without a container div.

     I could when I set the width of the body. In my case to 960 pixels.

     This is the CSS I use:

     html { text-align: center;}-body { margin: 0 auto; width: 960px;}-

     This nicely centers the inline-blocks which also have a fixed width.

     Although they solved a problem at the time they were created (updating part of a "page" while keeping in place a non-updating part), framesets were criticised in terms of usability pretty much from the start, as they break generic functions of the browser, such as:

     • bookmarking, and copy-and-pasting URLs to share
     • printing the page as displayed on the screen
     • reloading the page: since the URL has generally not changed, you will often be taken back to the site's homepage or default frameset; manually reloading some frames is possible, but not obvious to the user
     • back and forward buttons are ambiguous: undo/redo the last frame change, or take you to the last time the URL bar changed?

     The heaviest burden of avoiding framesets - including the same content on every page - is trivial to solve if you are using any server-side language to generate your HTML, even if all it provides is a "server side include". Unlike framesets, a server-side include could occur anywhere on the page; building a site with a server-side scripting language or templating system has other obvious advantages too.

     There is still an advantage to being able to update small areas of the page without reloading the entire content, which can be achieved via AJAX. This sometimes leads people to create interfaces with all the problems of framesets outlined above, but that is hardly an argument in favour of framesets. Again, a site built with well-designed AJAX functionality can achieve things which framesets don't even begin to address.

     It is more semantically correct.

     What you have above is an unordered list of languages. You should be using an unordered list of items (UL element with LI elements) to be semantically correct about it.

     This also helps screen readers and other technologies that depend on correct semantics to work.

     You will want to use an entirely different language/environment like Ruby on Rails, PHP, or Python for your back-end development. If you're new to back-end, I would suggest Ruby on Rails, as it is a newbie-friendly language which is simple and easy to understand.

     If you decide to use Ruby on Rails, then you can integrate Bootstrap using "gems" and use that as your front-end framework.

     If you would like to learn more about Ruby on Rails, here is a free tutorial book you can read by Michael Hartl.

     You sound like you know what you are talking about, so I would say just use align=right. Of course just be aware of the disadvantages of this:

     • more dificult to maintain later. If you have multiple tables and change the alignment you will need to do this for every table
     • search engins may penalise sites that rely heavily on deprecated tags
     • browsers could remove support for deprecated tags in future. They will anounce this in advance though, so of you expect the site to revive ongoing maintainable you will have time to remedy this
