Nubia ( / ˈnjuːbiə /, Nobiin: Nobīn, [2] Arabic: النُوبَة, romanized : an-Nūba) is a region along the Nile river encompassing the area between the first cataract of the Nile (south of Aswan in southern Egypt) and the confluence of the Blue and White Niles (in Khartoum in central Sudan ), or more strictly, Al Dabbah.

Jan 24, 2024 · It is suggested that the Nubian language has Hamitic origins with influences from ancient Arabic and, subsequently, Coptic. At present, differences in the Nubian language persist between Upper and Lower Nubia, with Arabic being the preferred language for writing.
There is some evidence that Cushitic languages were spoken in parts of Lower (northern) Nubia, an ancient region which straddles present-day Southern Egypt and Northern Sudan, and that Eastern Sudanic languages were spoken in Upper and Central Nubia, before the spread of Eastern Sudanic languages even further north into Lower Nubia.
First used to keep records, this script became the written language of Egypt. Hieratic script was used for recordkeeping and hieroglyphics were reserved for religious purposes. There are also a number of similarities between the ancient scripts of Egypt and Nubia.
