My guess would be that the HI file has the hearing impaired version. In the standard option, subtitles are focused on the spoken words that characters say.
Actually, they do. You're just watching with "SDH" or "HI" subtitles. You gotta select the regular subtitle option with "SDH" or "HI" in bracket beside it. For example: Select "English" not "English [SDH]". Pretty much all streaming services Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu etc. has both options.
