CHIRP is a free, open-source tool for programming your radio. It supports a large number of manufacturers and models, as well as provides a way to interface with multiple data sources and formats. CHIRP's preferred platform is Linux. By far the best way to get CHIRP running is to use one of the binary package repositories provided and maintained by volunteers. If you are running an obscure or old distribution, you may need to install it manually from the source tarball.
How do I upgrade to a newer version of CHIRP?¶ Nothing special is needed. Just download the newer version and install it. The install will replace the old version automatically. This applies to the daily builds as well. Is CHIRP safe to use with my radio?¶ The CHIRP development team takes radio safety seriously.
