With the help of King Minos' daughter, Ariadne, Theseus succeeded in slaying the monster and fled with Ariadne back toward Athens, leaving Ariadne behind on the island of Naxos (whether by accident or on purpose depends on which version of the story one reads).

The Minotaur, a half-man half-bull creature, is born out of the union between Queen Pasiphae and a bull sent by Zeus. King Minos, Pasiphae ’s husband, ashamed of the Minotaur ’s existence, decides to hide the creature in a labyrinth. This labyrinth, built by Daedalus in the Minoan Palace of Knossos, becomes the Minotaur ’s prison.
The Minotaur, hiding in the labyrinth's shadows, is a symbol of our personal fears and insecurities. Just as Theseus had to confront this terrifying creature, we too must face our own inner demons to move forward. Ariadne's thread, given to Theseus, represents guidance and support.
