Ian Joseph Somerhalder (born 8 December 1978) is an American actor, fashion model, director and producer who plays Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries. He directed The Downward Spiral, Days of Future Past and We Have History Together and produced the eight season of The Vampire Diaries.
In June 2009, Somerhalder was cast in the role of Vampire Damon Salvatore as a series regular in The CW television drama series The Vampire Diaries. The series premiere attracted The CW's highest premiere ratings of any season premiere since the network began in 2006.
