  2. This is such an iconic album, and I have it at 5/5 stars. The individual songs won't do anything for you, but as an entire album, there's nothing else like it. You get a good dose of stage banter from Tom, and the live setting brings added warmth to the experience.

  3. Aug 28, 2016 · "Nighthawks at the Diner" is a truly interesting album. At first glance it doesn't seem like much but some of the recordings from a man only known throughout nightclubs and coffee shops.

  4. Mar 24, 2013 · This LP is not as celebrated by fans as his previous couple, and I can see why, given its pretend live audience setting, but in my opinion, this is what makes Nighthawks one of the best in this era for Tom.

  5. Mar 24, 2018 · His third album, Nighthawks at the Diner, benefits from those experiences even if it doesn’t really reflect them. It’s a live album, but only sort of.

  6. The atmosphere maintained on this album is witty, dark, and a little absurd – really the best qualities of Tom Waits. At around seventy minutes it's a lengthy listen, especially since paying attention to Wait's words is half the point, but well worth it.

  7. Mar 9, 2018 · Though recorded in a studio, the simulated live environment lets his humor cut through the hazy tales of greasy spoon diners, dive bars, and those long, lonely drives at two thirty in the morning. Highly recommended. Favorite track: Eggs And Sausage (In A Cadillac With Susan Michelson).
