The Carey Treatment is a 1972 American crime thriller film directed by Blake Edwards and starring James Coburn, Jennifer O'Neill, Dan O'Herlihy and Pat Hingle. The film was based on the 1968 novel A Case of Need credited to Jeffery Hudson, a pseudonym for Michael Crichton.

Jan 24, 2022 · “The Carey Treatment” is almost one of those films where the hero catches breaks at every turn because the screenplay says he does. But at least Capt. Pearson (Pat Hingle, the 1989-1997 “Batman” films) is there to harass him, representing the almost-corrupt and certainly politicized Boston cops.
In a movie, of course, you have a larger screen and don’t have to use close-ups so much. That is true in theory, anyway, but TV’s recent breakthroughs in brow and lash work have apparently had an influence, and Blake Edwards’ “The Carey Treatment” is awfully ocular. The problem is in the script.
