It's the third entry in the MonsterVerse, following the 2017 MonsterVerse film, Kong: Skull Island, and the sequel to the 2014 MonsterVerse film, Godzilla. - Kong. Although he doesn't appear in the flesh, Kong is mentioned multiple times in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The King of the Apes is a 100 foot tall gorilla who resides on Skull Island, with immense strength and a similarly powerful heart.
