Tuskegee (/ t ʌ ˈ s k iː ɡ i / tuh-SKEE-ghee) is a city in Macon County, Alabama, United States. General Thomas Simpson Woodward , a Creek War veteran under Andrew Jackson , laid out the city and founded it in 1833.
- Tuskegee National Forest. Located just north of the city is Tuskegee National Forest, the smallest national forest in America at 11,252 acres. The forest appeals to outdoor enthusiasts with horseback riding, fish ponds, a wildlife viewing area and hiking and mountain biking trails.
- Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site. The Tuskegee Institute was founded in 1881 for the purpose of training Alabama’s brightest teachers. The aim was to establish a Normal School where African-Americans could teach others of the same race and help integrate them into society.
