    Gladstone is John Watson's dog. Sherlock Holmes has a tendency to experiment on him, to Watson's exasperation. In Sherlock Holmes, he lives with Holmes and Watson at 221B Baker Street. Holmes tests the rhododendron toxin that Lord Blackwood used to fake his death on the dog, paralyzing him. While Mary is shocked, Watson tells her he's been through much worse.

    Later, in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Holmes poisons Gladstone with ricin to test an adrenaline revival shot, prompting Watson to ask how many times he intends to kill his dog. Watson takes Gladstone with him when he and Mary move in together. When they go on their honeymoon, they leave Gladstone with Mrs Hudson.
