Fleeing 1930s New York and leaving behind a chequered past, the giltzy divorcee Mrs Stella Erlynne travels to Italy's sun-dappled Amalfi coast. Mrs Erlynne's appearance causes a stir amongst the visiting aristocracy. Based on the Oscar Wilde play "Lady Windemere's Fan."
Set in 1930, the story begins in New York where Mrs. Erlynne (Helen Hunt) is running out of suitors to pay her subsistence. Looking at a photograph in the newspaper, she packs up her few belongings, skips out on her healthy hotel bill, and makes her way to the shores of Italy.
