The first thing you need to do is read the invite. Does it state that it’s a white tie or black tie event? Or that the clothing is semi-casual or casual? If it says nothing and it’s a barn-style wedding, then you can assume that it’s not required that you wear formal dress. I.e., it’s not a black tie or white tie event.
