The show ended in 1975, and the following year Klugman made his debut as a Los Angeles medical examiner in Quincy, M.E. The popular drama ran until 1983, earning him several Emmy nominations. In 1989 Klugman underwent surgery for throat cancer, and he was unable to speak for several years.

Starting his acting career in 1949, Jack Klugman made his stage debut in the play ‘Stevedore’ at the Equity Liberty theatre in New York. He soon moved into television and films as well. In 1950, he was offered a minor role in the play ‘Mr. Roberts’ at Boston’s Colonial Theatre.
