What is Hammersmith known for?
Hammersmith is a district of West London, England, 4.3 miles (6.9 km) southwest of Charing Cross. It is the administrative centre of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, and identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London.
- King Street. Hammersmith’s principal artery, King Street was the main road to Windsor Castle for hundreds of years. Posting houses were set along the way at short intervals, and many of these have since become pubs.
- Ravenscourt Park. It’s a mystery how this 20-acre park has kept off most Londoners’ radar. Ravenscourt Park dates back to the Palingswick Estate in the 12th century, which was renamed Ravenscourt 250 years ago.
- Eventim Apollo. Facing the Hammersmith Flyover is a majestic performance venue steeped in rock and pop folklore. First off the Apollo is a spectacular Art Deco building designed by Robert Cromie and opened in 1932.

Feb 14, 2023 · Hammersmith has to be your next West London trip. West is best and Hammersmith is blessed with riverside walks, gorgeous green spaces and new shopping spaces (hello IKEA!). Look around and you’ll also discover several ‘villages’ in and around Hammersmith, with top dining and historic pubs.
Bordered by the River Thames to the South, Hammersmith was originally a London Borough in its own right until it was merged with Fulham to create the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. But, anywhere north of the Lillie Road/Fulham Road still has that Hammersmith vibe.
