As per reports, principal photography for the superhero film commenced in late May 2022 under the working title ‘Mofongo’ and wrapped up in less than two months, in July of the same year.
Set in the fictional Palmera City, Blue Beetle was filmed primarily in Miami, Atlanta, and Puerto Rico. This story, independent of the DC Extended Universe, contains many references to Mexican culture (and stereotypes), mixed with an interesting and refreshing social point of view.
The film was primarily shot on location with a heavy use of practical effects, such as for the Blue Beetle suit. Soto felt that the use of real-life locations allowed for the practical effects to be better integrated into the film.
