It was the first commercially successful electronic musical instrument that could be played with a keyboard, and was polyphonic (it can play chords rather than single notes).
It made the Hammond Organ sound completely different. Actually, not quite exactly like a Theatre Pipe Organ, but a lush, rich, distinctive sound of its own. The Hammond’s life in all popular music-Jazz, Rock, Pop, and all places in-between was born at that moment.
