After 50 days, Andreas Widmer defeated Silvia Herzog to become the Sole Survivor.
Swiss television channel TV3 invested between CHF 3.5 and 4 million into the series. Silvan Grütter was selected to be the host of the show.
Unlike the other versions of Robinson the same year, the season was filmed in Johor, Malaysia, and not the Philippines. Out of 600 applications, 16 people were selected to be castaways. 55 Swiss workers and 15 Malaysian locals were crew members for the season, with the locals sometimes being shown on camera to give a better atmosphere. The prize for the winner was CHF 50,000, equivalent to roughly US$60,000 in 2023.

Expedition Robinson was the Swiss version of the Swedish reality show Expedition Robinson and it debuted in September 1999. Seeing the success of the Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish versions of the show TV3 in Switzerland decided to produce their own version of the show.
