  7. This is exactly the point IMO. For all the greatness and power of the Gangs, they were trivially swept aside by professional soldiers. The great Bill the Butcher is basically taken out by shrapnel. Everything these people fought for so passionately was crushed in a moment of history; their stories ended or changed abruptly.
