In 1917, ballerina Olga Khokhlova performed Las Meninas, Les Sylphides and The Firebird with Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in Barcelona. In 1918 she married Picasso and in 1921 gave birth to her only child, Paulo. Picasso experimented with different approaches to discover the right image for her in his paintings and drawings.
