I totally get that. It definitely is very impactful. I hate when people say that Peeta was never the same/ loved Katniss the same. I mean, yeah, he will never be the same as before the games, and it's the same with Katniss. They went through so much, but I believe Peeta ended up becoming himself again. Honestly, I think their love became stronger.
the most disturbing thing u found was when peeta was hijacked, we all saw how broken katniss was. How much pain she was in. But I stead of comforting her, Gale saw her in a weak state and made a move on her. All he wanted to be with katniss was romantically involved. Whereas, peeta was ready to just be katniss' friend.
