We molecularly confirmed the causative agent; this information can be used to study the origin and dynamics of the epidemic.
Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) is a severe tick-borne rickettsial illness in the United States (1). RMSF is caused by Rickettsia rickettsii, is an intracellular bacterium and a member of the spotted fever group Rickettsia (SFGR). RMSF was first reported in the late 1890’s and is endemic to North, Central and South America.
