May 25, 2021 · UEFA INTERTOTO CUP (1961-2008) The UEFA Intertoto Cup abbreviated as UI cup was originally called the International Football Cup. It was also a European club football competition alongside European Cup, UEFA Cup, Cup Winners Cup but held in the summer. Though the tournament was founded in 1961 it wasn’t taken over by UEFA until 1995.
Having shunned the Intertoto Cup for the first 30 years of its existence, UEFA softened its objections to the competition in 1995, even going as far as to offer the victors a place in the first round of the UEFA Cup.
