May 5, 2021 · Think of this: the 49ers have consistently blamed their poor revenues on 2 things: pandemic closures, and the curfew (which they agreed to when they came to Santa Clara). But look at their first 2 years of operation (before the whole soccer park debacle) – there was a curfew then but it was still very profitable.
The Santa Clara City Council had planned to meet behind closed doors to approve the sale of the city’s soccer park to the 49ers for pennies on the dollar. Jed York wanted the 3-acre soccer park land to build a parking lot and retail shopping center, and he instructed the city council to sell him the city property at a massive discounted rate.

Jan 18, 2022 · So what am I trying to do. All non-profits in Santa Clara struggle financially. Grants of $10,000 or $20,000 can make a huge difference in the health of our non-profits. Presumably this also applies to Santa Clara Youth Soccer League which is a 501c3 Non-Profit that had a loss of $21,333 in 2017. There are 135 parking spots at the YSP.
Jan 19, 2022 · “Councilmember Suds Jain is requesting to place an agenda item at a future Council meeting to discuss making the Youth Soccer Park Parking Lot available to the 49ers. Jain says this would be when there are no events at the Youth Soccer Park. This sounds a lot like the first step in the 49ers’ attempt to take the park years ago.”
