Mar 28, 2024 · Nero (born December 15, 37 ce, Antium, Latium—died June 9, 68, Rome) was the fifth Roman emperor (54–68 ce ), stepson and heir of the emperor Claudius. He became infamous for his personal debaucheries and extravagances and, on doubtful evidence, for his burning of Rome and persecutions of Christians.

Apr 6, 2024 · Nero's wife, Poppaea Sabina, was killed by Nero in 65. In the beginning of 66, he married Statilia Messalina. Later that year or in 67 he married Sporus. Nero had Sporus's testicles removed and during their marriage, Nero had Sporus appear in public as his wife wearing the regalia that was customary for Roman empresses.
