  4. Jan 23, 2017 · Originally from Chicago, DeYoung was a teenager when he founded Styx with original members, John Panozzo (drums) and Chuck Panozzo (bass). The group was later joined by key members Tommy Shaw (guitar & vocals) and James “J.Y.” Young (guitar & vocals). DeYoung remained with Styx until 1999, when an illness led to his departure from the band.
