John Wilton Nelson (born December 6, 1941, San José, Costa Rica, of American parents) is an American conductor. His parents were Protestant missionaries. Nelson studied at Wheaton College and later at the Juilliard School of Music with Jean Morel.
John Nelson is one of the most versatile and accomplished conductors on the international scene. He is recognized throughout the world for his interpretations of the great romantic works, the Baroque repertoire, his vibrant approach to Mozart and Haydn and his enthusiasm for contemporary music.
John Nelson (born July 21, 1953) is an American visual effects supervisor. He has won two Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects for his work on the film Gladiator (2000) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017). He has also been nominated for I, Robot (2004) and Iron Man (2008).
After K-19: The Widowmaker (2002) and the Centropolis sections of The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003), Mr. Nelson supervised all the VFX in I, Robot (2004) and Iron Man (2008) both of which were nominated for the Academy Award in Visual Effects.
John Nelson will conduct Handel’s Messiah with The English Concert at Coventry Cathedral next Thursday; the performance will be live-streamed on medici.tv and an audio recording released by Warner Classics next year.
