There are hiking trails, a sand beach and squat, stone Pottawatomie Lighthouse, which is a 1.25-mile amble from the ferry landing. We felt we stepped back in time on this auto-less island hearing only the sounds of the lake and random hikers or boats. If you like nature, you will love Rock Island State Park. You could enjoy this trip without an extended hike by enjoying the quiet the the view or you could hike the 8 mile perimeter. The amount of exercise is up to you.
