The book was inspired by Hill’s real-life experiences as a pastor at the North Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Rochelle, NY. The name of the crime-fighting congregation in the film is based on the young street gang, known as the “Baker Street Irregulars,” who collected clues in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes novels.
