Tsui Hark's rampant imagination is on full display here. There's a sequence early on where the hero visits a ghost city, and later a train full of ghosts which Miyazaki seems to have directly lifted for Spirited Away. However, the style and vibe of Chinese Ghost Story is reminiscent of Ghibli, so it's definitely a two way street.
