Oct 19, 2009 · aYou guys are spot on, the Hammer of God is simply incredible. Perhaps the best book I have ever read. Life changing! If anyone is interested there is a conference in September 2010 put together by the International Giertz Society and the Pittsburgh Pastoral Conference honoring the 50th anniversity of the Hammer.

And the author, a Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Sweden, wants us to see just how dangerous such ideas are...dangerous because they could lead people away from the Scriptures with the false idea that salvation is what we do.
It also convinced me to learn Swedish so I could translate his other works. When I read the Hammer of God, it was really the only book available by Bo Giertz. Now there are several including his third novel, "The Knights of Rhodes" And the prequel to "The Hammer of God," "Faith Alone," which may be his best novel.
