Feb 12, 2024 · The U.S. Air Force has 150 missile launch facilities, or silos, dispersed across central Montana as part of its land-based nuclear deterrence strategy. Now loaded with 50-year-old Minuteman III ICBMs, the Air Force plans to install a new Sentinel ICBM system in 450 sites in Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and Nebraska over the next several years.
Other significant locations that might be targeted include missile storage sites, military bases, and nuclear weapon storage facilities. This map first appeared in a CBS article from 2015.

From 1963 until 1991 Delta-09 contained a fully operational Minuteman Missile. The Delta-09 silo was one of 150 spread across western South Dakota. In total there were 1,000 Minuteman missiles deployed from the 1960's into the early 1990's. These nuclear sentinels waited silent and deadly to perform their destructive duty at a moment’s notice.
