There's a big difference between historical depictions of racism/sexism and a scene from a movie that was unnecessarily transphobic for laughs. A more apt comparison to the Ace Ventura scene would be the use of blackface in minstrel shows. The main difference is that Ace Ventura is still seen as respectable in society.
It's a shame then that the final third is aggressively transphobic and the laughs dry up as the plot tries to tie up all the disparate narrative strands. I love far too many moments of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective to ever call it less than great but some of those final scenes are really heinous. 80% comedy gold, 20% unforgivably bad.
